Met Gala Fashions: Best and Worst

Last night’s Met Gala is noted as the biggest night in fashion, the Oscars so to speak, of the fashion elite.  Editors, celebrities and designers all strutted the red carpet turning out some the biggest looks of the year.  The Gala’s theme was celebrating the new spring 2013 Costume Institute’s exhibit PUNK: Chaos to Couture.   Some more than others, embraced the punk vibe and turned out in a fresh modern interpretation of the trend from the ‘70’s.  Others just did not have the nerve or inspiration to get with it. Those of us who had major real-time punk inspiration in our lives, never really abandoned the ‘trend’ (and yes we still have our studded leather jackets hanging in the back of our closets as we are too proud to get rid of them).

There was no shortage of amazing dresses but this year, the red carpet looks seemed all over the place – some were just plain boring (hello, do you know where you are??), some quite stunning (for the Oscars), others mistook ‘goth’ for punk and then there were a few that really got it.  Here is our round up of our picks for Best and Worst:

Best Dressed:

Elle Fanning in Rodarte – young, fresh and daring.

Donatella Versace in, well, Versace of course!  – I think is the overall best look.

Sara Jessica Parker in Giles with a custom Philip Treacy headpiece and Louboutins – over the top and fabulous!

Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino – while sporting a new platinum blond look, she could have been even more daring by spiking her hair a bit and bolder makeup to really bring it home, but still stunning.

Madonna in Givenchy – oh Madge, this was tough, as she was part of the generation inspired by punk in the first place, but still pulls it off.

Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs – young, daring and inspired.

Worst Dressed:

Kim Kardashian –  we applaud her courageous fashion choices while being pregnant, in this however, she literally looks like a couch.

Nicki Minaj in Tommy Hilfiger –  really?  This is the most conservative thing we have ever seen her wear.  Thought she might get more inspired.

Linda Evangelista – she is ageless and still gorgeous, but looks like the ghost of Christmas past.

Nicole Richie in custom Topshop – the dress is stunning, not sure we have words for the hair.  It is just wrong on her.
